Rattle and Humm are very healthy chicks. They have been developing at a normal pace, which means that they should fedge after about 22-24 VIDEOdays of hatching. In this video you can see Squeak feeding Rattle on his frst day out of the shell. Rattle is about the size of a raisin and his egg the size of a coffee bean. When Rattle was a week old, we had a rare sunny day and Rattle be-came very active. It was like he wanted to get some sun. With the warm sun shining into the nest, probably for the frst time in his life, Rattle stuck his head up over the side of the nest and felt the embrace of summer. It looked like he enjoyed it as he did it several times. VIDEOBoth Rattle and Humm have been very active in the nest and I was almost worried that they had mites or some irritation, but I think it may have just been itching from their feathers grow-ing in. There will be an article on feather technology in a future Squeak feeds Rattle and Humm about every half issue so you see what hour during daylight hours from the moment they they go through to hatch till a couple of weeks after they fy.get feathers. 10 Hummingbirds Up Close Magazine Hummingbirds Up Close Magazine 11
