The nest is extremely small, about the size of a golf ball, and vulnerable to anything. Camoufage is very important to hummingbirds. The nest must be invisible to other birds to keep it safe. That’s why hummingbird chicks don’t make a sound until they are almost ready to leave the nest. They usually don’t peep until the last day in the nest or close to it, but if they stay in the nest and peep too long, they will attract a predator.
