The little chicks catch on quickly. After a few weeks Chicklet is picking fies out of the air. Hummingbirds love it when fies cluster in a shaft of sunlight. It makes the hunting easy. If you see a hummingbird zipping excitedly around from point to point in the air, they are probably picking off little fies. Here is a video of Chicklet feeding on a swarm of fies. VIDEOHere Squeak tries to feed Chicklet an aphid, but the aphid gets stuck to her beak. In the following photo, Squeak is feeding Rattle a big bug. I think it’s a beetle or a spider. Sometimes you will see hummingbirds picking over plants or rock walls and sticking their beaks in little crevices.
